The Big Trip, part 3: Sebastian/Brunswick

From this point forward, things become more relaxed. Friday concluded at my grandmother's house in Sebastian, Florida, which is a little coastal town just south of Melbourne. After dinner Friday night, it was time for Patrick to head home to his cats in Miami. He had plans to meet a Greek friend of his for the early World Cup game first thing in the morning, so we had to say farewell.

We stayed at my grandmother's place for two nights. There were two big attractions there for Owen: the local splash fountains at the riverfront park, and David's Lionel trains. We also ate at a restaurant on the water that had a live two-man band (piano and bass). Owen dug the band and also feeding the gulls our leftover bread.

On Sunday we drove up to Brunswick to my folks' place, where we are now. It's been a surprisingly busy visit so far (that is, surprising if you are familiar with Brunswick and the general pace of life around here). We've been to Jekyll for the beach and the turtle center (sea turtle museum and rehabilitation hospital); down to Jacksonville to visit the excellent but extremely hot zoo; and this morning we went over to St. Simons for the beach (again) and their fantastic new splash pool at Neptune Park. We have hit a number of restaurants (Dressner's, Beachcombers, and even a for-nostalgia’s-sake trip to Outback, which was better left to nostalgia as it turns out) with a few still left to go (Mullet Bay).

Also, because it is a truth universally acknowledged that my father, at all times and under all conditions, must be in want of a televised sporting event, we have watched a whole lot of soccer.
