Shameless self-promotion
I'm moving in less than three weeks, I have a giant stack of papers to grade, and how am I using my class time? To test my skill with iambic pentameter, of course.
Sonnet: Against Damnation
The foulest libel spread against the gods
Is that of the existence of Inferno.
A deity who merits love and lauds
Would never torture us with holy Sterno.
Aside from scientific problems such
As its location, form, and composition,
Unceasing torment without end is much
More evil than mankind’s worst Inquisition.
Still worse: to think that the Immortal Blessed
Would care what name we loved it by, so long
As we did right, I call an awful jest.
And if, against all reason, I am wrong,
I’ll stand amid the shrieking fires and tell
The psychopathic Brute to go to hell.
